AMBER SOUND FM was a concept devised in 1996 by Ripley based DJ Chris Knight and local businessman Alan Farrar to provide the Amber Valley with a community radio service which involved local people at every level. Amber Sound FM's mission was and still is to give the Amber Valley a radio station of its own, although the area can receive a wide and varied mix of radio stations not one is truly dedicated to the area.

Our music policy this time will be simple to play you more music and be more local, with a wide variety of music from the last three decades mixed with today's contemporary hits. Amber Sound FM will also feature specialist programmes focusing on many different genres of music like Country, Rock, RnB, Gospel, Dance and more, all brought to you by local people.

The first broadcast on 105.6 FM in 1996 was a great success, the feedback we received from residents across the Amber Valley was amazing and as a result of your positive comments and support a second broadcast later in 1996 went on the air on 105.8 FM, both broadcasts were transmitted from studios located in Ripley town centre, we now have purpose built studios located in the Amber Valley ready for our 2007 broadcast.

Our plan is to make this years broadcast the biggest and best one ever, there will be plenty of chances for you to interact with Amber Sound FM, no matter how you get in contact with us during our 28 day broadcast, either by phone, email or text, your support and interaction is important to us, after all Amber Sound FM is your local radio station.
